The Sacrament of Marriage is an essential part of God’s plan, as the history of salvation “begins with the creation of man and woman in the image and likeness of God and concludes with a vision of "the wedding feast of the Lamb” (CCC 1602).
Through marriage...
A perpetual, exclusive, and irrevocable bond arises between the spouses.
Spouses are strengthened and consecrated for the duties and the dignity of their state.
Spouses enter a covenant with one another that is integrated into God's covenant with humanity.
Spouses receive the grace intended to perfect the couple's love and strengthen their indissoluble unity.
Spouses receive the grace to help one another attain holiness in their married life and in welcoming and educating children.
MATRIMONY AT NATIVITY
At Nativity, we would love to guide and support you through the marriage preparation process. The components of marriage preparation offered at Nativity include the FOCCUS questionnaire, theological marriage preparation classes, and Natural Family Planning (NFP) courses. You can choose to complete any or all of these components with us here at Nativity.
MARRIAGE PREPARATION PROCESS
REGISTRATION
Please click below to register for marriage preparation at Nativity. This requires both the bride and groom to register together.
MEETING WITH A PRIEST
The priest will get to know you as a couple and will go over the essential elements of the Catholic faith.
FOCCUS QUESTIONNAIRE
Couples going through marriage preparation are given the FOCCUS “pre-marriage inventory,” for which each partner answers questions individually before coming together to discuss the questions, thoughts, differences, and priorities brought to light. The test will be facilitated by Bridget Fross, Parish Registrar. The questionnaire is designed to help engaged couples appreciate their unique relationship, enhance communication, and address areas important to their lifelong marriage.
Classes
Couples seeking the sacrament of Matrimony are asked to attend a series of five theological marriage preparation classes, which are conducted by Fr. Emanuele Fadini, F.S.C.B., Nativity’s Pastor. These classes are offered once a year in the winter/spring time. For our most recent class schedule at Nativity, please scroll down the page. The couples can also take the marriage preparation classes through the Archdiocese. Click HERE for more information.
Natural Family Planning (NFP)
NFP courses help couples learn a beautiful way to live out the Church’s teaching on sexuality that is safe, healthy, holy, and effective. One course consists of three classes spaced one month apart. Among certified methods in our Archdiocese, Nativity hosts a course conducted by married couples.
